Mayor's Race: Kevin Hyde Drops Out and Backs Audrey Moran, the head of the Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless

Death, Taxes & Politics

Former Jacksonville mayoral candidate Kevin Hyde told supporters today he's backing Audrey Moran.

Hyde, a City Councilman, dropped out of the race last month after he struggled to raise money for his campaign.

"In my opinion, Audrey is the right person, in the right place, at precisely the right time," Hyde wrote in a letter to supporters.

Moran, president of the Sulzbacher Center for the homeless, is among the front-runners in a 15-person field. Other top candidates include Bailey Publishing owner Jim Bailey, former Clinton adminstration aide Alvin Brown, Duval County Tax Collector Mike Hogan and former General Counsel Rick Mullaney.

All are Republicans except for Brown, a Democrat.

The first election is in March, with the top two vote-getters advancing to a May runoff.
