I was invited to speak at the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives Monday night.  It was a memory I will forever cherish and am thankful for the opportunity.

Michelle Bachmann reached out and asked three tea party leaders to speak on behalf of the Tea Party Movement.  Her goal was to get our input on the Debt Ceiling.  (Answer:  Do not raise the Debt Ceiling.)  The room was filled with new and more seasoned representatives who felt they identified as a tea party member.

I’m sorry to say but my Representative, Ander Crenshaw, did not show up nor did anyone from the Northeast Florida area, including Rep.  John Mica who I had breakfast with the next morning for a discussion on High Speed Rail.

Our new and outspoken Rep. Allen West was there and we had a meeting with him earlier in the day in his office.  Let me say this about Rep. West – “Thank God he is there!  What a man of character and courage and he is certainly a leader!”  (We’re talking to him about showing up for a gig in North Florida in the near future so stay tuned on that one!)

The two days in DC were exhausting and enlightening.  My encounters went like this:

  • Rep. Allen West – A gift from God sent to the front line in DC!  He said:  “Keep the Tea Party awake.  This place is crazy.  We must control the House in 2012 and take back the Senate too.  If we don’t have a good candidate to run against Obama, then we can control thorough the power of Congress.”
  • Senator Marco Rubio – Met with him for a few minutes as he was rushing out the door.  He was smiling and confident.  He said:  “This place is more screwed up than I could have imagined.  Keep up the good work with the Tea Party, we need you guys.”
  • Rep. Michelle Bachmann – As she led her peers in the House Tea Party Caucus event, all she could focus on was this question:  “What do the Tea Party members think about the debt ceiling?”  That was the question of the night and although those in the room wanted to speak, she kept drawing the conversation back to us – the tea party members – for our input.  She told the audience:  “We are here to listen to them.  That’s why they are here.”
  • Rep. John Mica – Enjoy meeting Rep. Mica for breakfast and discussion that followed.  He is very smart about transportation issues in America and how money is generated for that purpose.  He said:  “18.4 cents per gallon of gas sold generates about $30 billion per year in the Highway and Transportation Trust Fund.  80% is used for highways and 20% for transit.  If Florida doesn’t take the money for High Speed Rail (which he said is not really high speed and the messaging is wrong(?) – Obama’s administration will take that money and use it somewhere else in a liberal state to help his campaign.”  About this time, my head spins backwards and I lose my breakfast!  “Playing with our money for political gain” ran through my head.  First things first – we could use that money to pay down the debt but no way will that happen.  Rep. Mica had more to say and has his own perspective after many years in the House.  We will work with his new Chief of Staff, Wiley Deck, to get him here for a face to face discussion on transportation dollars and the “not really high speed rail issue.”  We have a lot of questions and the communication coming from Rep. Mica’s office needs to be improved and he agreed it did.  Let’s make sure we keep on him about that communication flow and his attendance at a meeting with us in North Florida and all tea party leaders across the state.  (More to come on this one – soon!)

My overall observation was this:

  • We have some good leaders and we need A LOT MORE of them in Congress.  2012 is our time to focus on this critical issue.  The left is already funding campaigns for progressives and they once again are ahead of us in that deal.  They are also training Summer Interns on College campuses to work towards the 2012 election!  What are we doing?  Where is our funding coming from?  How will we keep our members engaged without deep pocket funding that the left has?  How can we educate those who are paid to canvas neighborhoods and sign up people for the progressive movement?
  • The Tea Party leaders in this country must start to talk to each other in a more robust fashion while focusing on 2012 results.  We have leaders of individual groups doing a great job across this country and they are doing fantastic work to keep the movement alive and awake.  Our focus should now be on leading our local members to find qualified conservative candidates in our own districts.  Encourage them to run for the House or the Senate and back them with your time, talents and resources.   Start a team in your local tea party group that will focus on this one thing and one thing only.  We need leadership at the local level and leaders working together in every state to keep their state awake to conservative values.  Florida is a targeted state by the left so we have work to do.  We presently have a great group of people leading tea parties in Florida and we talk every day about issues.  This group needs to grow and each tea party group needs to grow.  Let’s get it done and start our focus on 2012 now! Remember, “Without a leader, the people perish.”  Let’s go find our leaders – forge ahead!
  • Communication is lacking between those in DC and We the People.  I had the pleasure of sitting with all these people in DC and listened to their concerns.  Not all of us can do that.  I encouraged them to find better ways to get their message out and to open communicate with their local constituents.  Communication is key to good leadership and they need to focus on that – BIG TIME.  Here was one of my coaching moments with a few of our leaders in DC:  “Without communication, people make up stuff and fill the void.  If you do not get your message out to us, we will make it for you and that’s not pretty.  Keep us informed.  Get back into your districts.  Tell us all the news – the good, the bad and the ugly.  We can take it.  We are smart people and we know more than you on some of these issues because we have more time to research than you do.”  Let’s hope they listened and if they didn’t – let’s find some who will!

The two days were worth the time and the efforts walking those long hallways in high heels for the sake of Liberty!  Now we must get to work and it must start today.  November 2012 is only 19 months away and it is time to find our new leaders to run against the RINOs and root out the Progressives.  Anyone up for the job?

BY THE WAY – We are now heading to Tally next week to meet with our leaders.  March 8 is our day in Tally and we hope you will make plans to attend.  If you are coming from Jacksonville, we have a free bus awaiting you for the trip up and back on the same day – March 8.  On the schedule will be meetings with our legislators, a rally at noon on the steps of the Capitol with some great speakers, and a press conference at 4:00 announcing the new Tea Party Caucus in Tallahassee led by Rep. Mike Weinstein from Jacksonville.  We will be a part of setting up this Tea Party Caucus and developing the agendas as they move forward with this new initiative.  Contact our office at (904) 683-3945 to reserve a seat on the bus.

And another note:  Today, March 2, at 4:30 we will announce the First Coast Tea Party endorsements of local candidates for city council and the mayor’s race.  We ask for your prayers and support as we make these announcements.

Continue to stay focused, stay awake and stay the course.  Tell your friends to join our movement and get involved in securing freedom and liberty for all.  Our country needs you.

P.S.  – Find attached a poster we handed out at the Caucus.  Print one for yourself and post it on your wall.  These people showed up way before any others across this globe showed up in their city squares.  The media never spoke about that day and the numbers that came to DC.  And guess what happened on that day – no one got hurt, the place was clean as a whistle when we left and no media personnel were attacked.  America was the first to stand for freedom and why didn’t the media report about that?  Look for the First Coast Tea Party in the crowd.  We were there and we plan to be a part of the next March on DC in November 2012 when we take back Congress and hopefully the White House!

Thank you so much JH, i have been so busy calling, and emailing Congress this week on the budget, spending, HC repeal, defunding HC and various other groups and bills, el etc., and also the Governors in various states, that are working to get their budgets back in the black, to let them know many Americans are supporting them, i have several friends in various states that i have been working with.

This is great NEWS!

I heard Congressman Ron Paul say earlier today, that there are only about 22 in Congress who are really serious about stopping the spending and rolling back the federal government and that they need to hear more from the people. Many Congressional members still don't get it.

This is a new to me group, i will sign up. Thanks again, We the people need to speak up, i will keep spreading the word. This is great. I will also call the committee chairs also.

John, John, you do not get it.

You really need to get the facts...

Dodd was chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Committee for several years. Frank was the chairman of the House Financial  Services Committee that over sees Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae. They both relaxed the regulations, allowed the banking rules to be ignored, so that people who could not afford to buy a house because of lack of down payment could, then they allowed the financially institutions to create loans that started off with low payments and interest and some would gradually go up, some actually doubled and tripled after a few years. They were not the traditional mortgage with a fix interest rate and a 20 to 30% down payment.

The previous administration was concerned because of the rising cost in single-family homes accelerating at such a fast pace and they questioned Dodd and Frank who told them not to worry everything is fine.

Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae who now own or guarantee around 60% or more of single-family homes in the USA.

Dodd also ran for President in 2008, with one of his biggest contributor being Bear Stearns which collapsed in March 2008, the start of the market meltdown.

Do you know how many new regulations went into effect January 2011?

Interesting when you connect all the dots, that a lot of things that you do not understand begin to make sense. Many members of Congress received what you call 'Sweetheart' loans at almost zero interest. Chris Dodd brought a ocean front Irish estate in Ireland at a third of it's market value. His current wife is one of the biggest lobbyist in D.C..

Since you keep making negative comments about Governor Rick Scott, did you support Progressive Liberal Alex Sink who completely supports President Obama and his agenda? She tried to pretend to be a conservative, but thankfully a lot of people did not listen to what she said but looked at her voting records and watched what she did, who and what she supported and connected the dots.

Did you know that the progressive liberals have just recently formed their own Tea Party? I guess since they can not debate truthfully on issues they must try to deceive people.

JL.. Just heard a piece of a conversation on Mark Levin with Michele Bachmann and Steve King about a Wednesday Vote on something that should include defunding of Obamacare and the party leaders are whimping out. They wanted listeners to call congress between now and Wednesday. I don't think it was a "best of" show and I'm not seeing the info anywhere else. If you see it post it.

John S... CAFR, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, is the most boring, mind boggling, eggheaded thing you will encounter. My accountant prepares my financial statements and I have to say he needs to get a life. On a CAFR you need to skip the first two thirds or you will never make it to the good stuff. By design it is prepared to discourage comprehension. The various levels of government, federal, state, local and municipal each began producing a CAFR to catalog an accurate picture of: institutional funds, enterprise or financial holdings, assets and total investment incomes, for those government and nongovernmental entities using the report. This measure is above and beyond the budget process and replaced what was regularly an "off-the-books" practice called the "general fixed-asset account group". General Purpose government "Budget" reports did not and still doesn't reflect accounting of this financial data and in effect with the co-operation or silence of any media reports, hides these assets and investments from the public by only reporting on the budget or "rainy day" funds or pension fund investments. What should be obvious is the control factor associated with such vast amounts of capital within financial institutions and the implications of how our economy reacts to it. We won't even discuss how funds could potentially leave the system in market fluctuations. I wouldn't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist or something, but hey, I am a taxpayer. I want to hear about the surpluses as well as the deficits. State capitalism isn't a China only club... And I do believe some of your posts do tend to show a bias toward a certain ideological tendency of dominance. We are here to share and learn.

John… John… i do not know where you are reading these so called facts but here they are, regulations were not part of the economic meltdown, the progressive deregulation on mortgage loans, they allowed sublime loans with interest rates that would rise each year, or in so many years, many doubling in payments, that along with zero to just 1 to 2 % down payments for the house. They did this because in their wee minds do not understand the way tradition banking works and why, they did not understand the checks and balances of it all, instead they played GOD and changed the rule and they allowed speculation on this sector which Wall Street went wild with because of the obvious chance at large profits. Chris Dodd, Barney Frank over saw this and a few more idiots. Congress has no business being involved.  History will bring this to the surface since right now no one is willing to look into it or at least make it public.

Massey Energy, look at all their violations and tell me WHY didn't the Federal government oversight in the MMS (Minerals Management Service.) called them down? Stop them? Nothing to do with regulations it has to do with accountability, ethics and having a moral compass, just like the mortgage meltdown. BP? They submitted a plan that was from a plan that was for drilling in Alaska, the gulf has no seals or caribou, like the plan outlined. The MMS department accepted it. By the way a former BP employee had oversight. My husband is a pilot and i am aware of regulation in the Airways and FAA and regulations. If everyone had to have a annual FAA check up on their vehicles like you do with your airplane, our roadways would be a LOT safety and they do not come cheap.

Enron again, people knew what was going on, both in the company and in the Federal government. People in the company blew the whistle, several times just like was done with Bernie Maydoff (sp?). The FDA should be shut down and a new agency built from the ground up, there are so many overlapping departments it is a regulatory nightmare, the newest food safety bill passed last year just added to it.

The problem is the government is way too, big and slap full of corruption, waste and fraud. In Florida alone during the last round of hurricanes here, there were literally millions and millions of dollars of false claims that were paid out by FEMA and they were never repaid. In one year over 200 or more funerals were paid for by FEMA and the coroners' records proved that they were NOT hurricane victims as claimed.

Again BIG government is the problem not the solution. Our governments from the federal level on down need to abide by and follow the guidelines of our constitutions, period.

John, you just DON'T GET IT...

The federal government created HMOs, PPOs, etc., to control rising health care costs, before you dealt with your doctor, then your insurance company. The federal government NOT Governor Rick Scott.

Rising costs were created through Medicare and Medicaid because every few years the government would pay less to the doctors and the medical facilities for reimbursement, so being in business, like good business people, the doctors and facilities had to pass the cost on to the other consumers, the American people, we have been subsidizing both of those wonderful entitlements through our costs of health care.

Then we had to deal with another middle man HMOs, PPOs, etc., instead of directly dealing with our doctors or health care facilities, which dumb down people as to the actually cost of a doctors visit or medical procedure or actual total costs because the HMOs, PPOs, etc., handled driving up costs again because Medicare and Medicaid were getting less reimburstments by the Federal government passed on to the private sector again driving up costs, while HMOs, PPOs, etc. drove up costs because NOW the doctors, medical facilities had to hire insurance clerks to deal with all above, driving up their cost that had to be passed down to us, because remember they are in a business to make money, not loose money. And now we have the OBAMACARE.

Guess what John? Now instead of dealing with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, we have another MIDDLE MAN, we must now report not to our insurance company (which remains the same) but the United Healthcare and then they go to the insurance company then back and forth to the doctors and medical facilities who are probably going to have to hire more clerks to deal with the United Healthcare as well as the insurance company and a couple of legal lawyers not the ones they have to hire for lawsuits but the ones the Congressman in New York talked about when he stated "Read the bill? WHO reads the bill before voting? Why you would have to have two lawyers and days just to read the bill." then he laughed.

DO YOU GET IT NOW, John?

I would like to get back to just dealing with my doctor myself and the medical facility, where i know the cost and i can tell, no the price is too, high, can you recommend something else? Consumers NOT the government keep prices and the cost of living low and in check.

This is probably your source from secretary of Interior Department Ken Salazar,

Actual Gulf Production Doesn't Match Secretary Salazar's Rosy Outlook:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkLM9JAmTcQ&feature=player_embedded

One of many articles, this one from the Washington Examiner:

By: Mark Tapcott 03/03/11 6:23 PM

Salazar tells House Gulf oil production at ‘all-time high;’ Energy Department shows 300,000 fewer barrels produced per day. Was it a lie? Or is he just ignorant? Does it really matter? This is what is running our country. Scary isn’t it?

Salazar claims oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has remained at “an all-time high” despite the Deepwater Horizon disaster and the federal moratorium and permatorium that have stopped all deepwater drilling activity, put thousands of people in Texas, Lousiana, Mississippi and Alabama out of work, and kept the region’s energy economy mired in a deep recession.

But according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration, Gulf oil production has dropped nearly 300,000 barrels per day since the Deepwater Horizon tragedy. Imports of foreign oil have not slowed as a result of the Middle East crisis, so it must be the Gulf slowdown that is forcing retailers to raise gas prices.

Did Salazar purposely misinform the House committee or does he just not know?

Wow... JL, you just nailed it all the way through. Definitely the HMO's was the beginning of the end for healthcare in the private sector.
Comment by JL Gawlik on March 10, 2011 at 5:58pm

John you are out of touch, drilling has been banned, many drilling platforms pulled out the Gulf of Mexico when the President banned drilling in the gulf.

Oil drilling is not at a all time high, it is at a all time low in the United States of America.

Crude oil stocks are at a ALL TIME HIGH because of FUTUREs predicting prices are going to go up because of the problem in the Arabic countries, where were you when the previous administration lifted the drilling bans in 2008 and prices immediately went way down? World wide?

I am just glad i live in my reality and not yours, you really need to get the facts and the truth of it all.

Profits on oil for oil companies drilling is only around 9% or so, the oil must be refined then you have transportation costs, taxes, goodness knows how many more costs are lumped in. Have you ever brought stock in oil? Ran a business? If you have you would understand more of the costs. To drill it is a very expensive proposition and many times you do not even hit a vein, even with advance geological information. Even the equipment is so expensive as in DEEP WATER drilling, you paid a company to use their equipment. I have friends who are invested in oil drilling and understand the facts of it all. IF there HAD not been all the restrictions because of all the progressive liberal environmental groups, they would of been allowed drill in shallower water and the spill would of been capped a LOT sooner. You have no idea what all is involved, you just read certain media and run with what they say.

As far as wanting the government to take another industry?  Or you nutts? Where in the heck did you get that from? The government had been hiking up our medical costs via Medicaid, Medicare, HMOs, PPOs, etc., every time the government gets involved or tries to control anything costs greatly (like they have been with housing, interest rates, etc..), increase, why is that? Because they are not a business, they only can spend, if the money isn't spent then it is taken away, so they spend, spend, spend, they do not worried about the bottom line.

The government has NO BUSINESS in any industry. Read the U.S. Constitution and perhaps you will get it ,but right now buddy, you are way out in the *TWiLiGHT*ZONe*

The government is the problem not the solution, i hope, pray and i support the 22 Congressional members up on the hill that do GET IT, can turn this mess around and stop the spending, downsize the government and get us back on the road to prosperity.

And hopefully it will be at the death of the Progressive Liberals ever being involved in our government ever again.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
