I was invited to speak at the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives Monday night.  It was a memory I will forever cherish and am thankful for the opportunity.

Michelle Bachmann reached out and asked three tea party leaders to speak on behalf of the Tea Party Movement.  Her goal was to get our input on the Debt Ceiling.  (Answer:  Do not raise the Debt Ceiling.)  The room was filled with new and more seasoned representatives who felt they identified as a tea party member.

I’m sorry to say but my Representative, Ander Crenshaw, did not show up nor did anyone from the Northeast Florida area, including Rep.  John Mica who I had breakfast with the next morning for a discussion on High Speed Rail.

Our new and outspoken Rep. Allen West was there and we had a meeting with him earlier in the day in his office.  Let me say this about Rep. West – “Thank God he is there!  What a man of character and courage and he is certainly a leader!”  (We’re talking to him about showing up for a gig in North Florida in the near future so stay tuned on that one!)

The two days in DC were exhausting and enlightening.  My encounters went like this:

  • Rep. Allen West – A gift from God sent to the front line in DC!  He said:  “Keep the Tea Party awake.  This place is crazy.  We must control the House in 2012 and take back the Senate too.  If we don’t have a good candidate to run against Obama, then we can control thorough the power of Congress.”
  • Senator Marco Rubio – Met with him for a few minutes as he was rushing out the door.  He was smiling and confident.  He said:  “This place is more screwed up than I could have imagined.  Keep up the good work with the Tea Party, we need you guys.”
  • Rep. Michelle Bachmann – As she led her peers in the House Tea Party Caucus event, all she could focus on was this question:  “What do the Tea Party members think about the debt ceiling?”  That was the question of the night and although those in the room wanted to speak, she kept drawing the conversation back to us – the tea party members – for our input.  She told the audience:  “We are here to listen to them.  That’s why they are here.”
  • Rep. John Mica – Enjoy meeting Rep. Mica for breakfast and discussion that followed.  He is very smart about transportation issues in America and how money is generated for that purpose.  He said:  “18.4 cents per gallon of gas sold generates about $30 billion per year in the Highway and Transportation Trust Fund.  80% is used for highways and 20% for transit.  If Florida doesn’t take the money for High Speed Rail (which he said is not really high speed and the messaging is wrong(?) – Obama’s administration will take that money and use it somewhere else in a liberal state to help his campaign.”  About this time, my head spins backwards and I lose my breakfast!  “Playing with our money for political gain” ran through my head.  First things first – we could use that money to pay down the debt but no way will that happen.  Rep. Mica had more to say and has his own perspective after many years in the House.  We will work with his new Chief of Staff, Wiley Deck, to get him here for a face to face discussion on transportation dollars and the “not really high speed rail issue.”  We have a lot of questions and the communication coming from Rep. Mica’s office needs to be improved and he agreed it did.  Let’s make sure we keep on him about that communication flow and his attendance at a meeting with us in North Florida and all tea party leaders across the state.  (More to come on this one – soon!)

My overall observation was this:

  • We have some good leaders and we need A LOT MORE of them in Congress.  2012 is our time to focus on this critical issue.  The left is already funding campaigns for progressives and they once again are ahead of us in that deal.  They are also training Summer Interns on College campuses to work towards the 2012 election!  What are we doing?  Where is our funding coming from?  How will we keep our members engaged without deep pocket funding that the left has?  How can we educate those who are paid to canvas neighborhoods and sign up people for the progressive movement?
  • The Tea Party leaders in this country must start to talk to each other in a more robust fashion while focusing on 2012 results.  We have leaders of individual groups doing a great job across this country and they are doing fantastic work to keep the movement alive and awake.  Our focus should now be on leading our local members to find qualified conservative candidates in our own districts.  Encourage them to run for the House or the Senate and back them with your time, talents and resources.   Start a team in your local tea party group that will focus on this one thing and one thing only.  We need leadership at the local level and leaders working together in every state to keep their state awake to conservative values.  Florida is a targeted state by the left so we have work to do.  We presently have a great group of people leading tea parties in Florida and we talk every day about issues.  This group needs to grow and each tea party group needs to grow.  Let’s get it done and start our focus on 2012 now! Remember, “Without a leader, the people perish.”  Let’s go find our leaders – forge ahead!
  • Communication is lacking between those in DC and We the People.  I had the pleasure of sitting with all these people in DC and listened to their concerns.  Not all of us can do that.  I encouraged them to find better ways to get their message out and to open communicate with their local constituents.  Communication is key to good leadership and they need to focus on that – BIG TIME.  Here was one of my coaching moments with a few of our leaders in DC:  “Without communication, people make up stuff and fill the void.  If you do not get your message out to us, we will make it for you and that’s not pretty.  Keep us informed.  Get back into your districts.  Tell us all the news – the good, the bad and the ugly.  We can take it.  We are smart people and we know more than you on some of these issues because we have more time to research than you do.”  Let’s hope they listened and if they didn’t – let’s find some who will!

The two days were worth the time and the efforts walking those long hallways in high heels for the sake of Liberty!  Now we must get to work and it must start today.  November 2012 is only 19 months away and it is time to find our new leaders to run against the RINOs and root out the Progressives.  Anyone up for the job?

BY THE WAY – We are now heading to Tally next week to meet with our leaders.  March 8 is our day in Tally and we hope you will make plans to attend.  If you are coming from Jacksonville, we have a free bus awaiting you for the trip up and back on the same day – March 8.  On the schedule will be meetings with our legislators, a rally at noon on the steps of the Capitol with some great speakers, and a press conference at 4:00 announcing the new Tea Party Caucus in Tallahassee led by Rep. Mike Weinstein from Jacksonville.  We will be a part of setting up this Tea Party Caucus and developing the agendas as they move forward with this new initiative.  Contact our office at (904) 683-3945 to reserve a seat on the bus.

And another note:  Today, March 2, at 4:30 we will announce the First Coast Tea Party endorsements of local candidates for city council and the mayor’s race.  We ask for your prayers and support as we make these announcements.

Continue to stay focused, stay awake and stay the course.  Tell your friends to join our movement and get involved in securing freedom and liberty for all.  Our country needs you.

P.S.  – Find attached a poster we handed out at the Caucus.  Print one for yourself and post it on your wall.  These people showed up way before any others across this globe showed up in their city squares.  The media never spoke about that day and the numbers that came to DC.  And guess what happened on that day – no one got hurt, the place was clean as a whistle when we left and no media personnel were attacked.  America was the first to stand for freedom and why didn’t the media report about that?  Look for the First Coast Tea Party in the crowd.  We were there and we plan to be a part of the next March on DC in November 2012 when we take back Congress and hopefully the White House!

Another thing that the federal government could do to cut costs, give back Federal lands to the states that they have seized over the years. States should have control over their lands, not the federal government, so they can be steward properly.

John, climate change is a hoax, did you not read the emails that came to surface a couple of years ago with the Scientists from the UK stating that they misreported temperatures just to continue getting government funding?  In other words like this Progressive Liberal leadership, THEY LIED.

Cleaning up Gulf of Mexico, shouldn't that be laid on BP shoulders or did President Obama sign off and relieve them of the responsibility?  Energy insecurity created by the EPA and environmentalist, lift the drilling and mining bans like the previous administration. Every American should be questioning WHY are we buying foreign oil when drilling our for our own fossil fuel will create thousands of jobs. We have great economist who have offered many suggestions and the most prevalent one is the obvious, get rid of restrictions, mandates and let America get back to work, get rid of union control and out of the government, they have already destroyed our auto industry and driven many manufacturing industries out of the country because of their high demands, they  have destroyed the education system, the postal system, which should be privatized, and many other sectors. It has been proven over and over government and unions destroy prosperity and growth. We need to STOP the spending, our federal government take in 200 billion dollars a month in revenues and just last month they spent over 223 billion dollars in February the shortest month of the year. We have people at the helm in Congress who have no business being there in both parties. BUT the reality is that the Progressive Liberal Leadership and Majority spent over 5 TRILLION dollars in JUST under 4 years, 3 TRILLION dollars in just under 2 years under the Obama administration. Do the math.

YOU JUST DON'T GET IT...

Comment by JL Gawlik on March 10, 2011 at 3:10pm

John, again you have twisted facts and the truth, i never did say that i represent the FCTP, i am a member of the FCTP and support their agenda and actions, just as i am a member of the Florida TeaParty, the National Tea Party, the Tenth amendment center both locally and nationally and many other wonder organizations that stand for and protect our U.S. Constitution.

You do not know who i listen to or what i believe, you constantly are labeling people here, judging them and claiming you know what they think and stand for. I will tell you this, i stand up for our founding fathers' values and principles, I stand up for our U.S. Constitution, our freedoms and liberties. I stand up for our flag, our patriots, our military.

And from the rhetoric you keep saying, i would say you are a progressive liberal, your talking points are exactly like the ones posted all over the internet.

I am not angry, that is a destructive emotion. I rather confront the truth and deal with it.

I do not care iF President Obama is a Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Wicca, etc., or do i care if his ethnic background is Asian, African, Indian, Latino, European, etc., i prefer to see no color but the content of one's character, he is a American, he is our President and i do not agree with nor do i support his belief of collective salvation, the Marxist agenda that is jamming down our throats and of the direction he is taking our country. He has stated that he is a progressive, he stands for progress, which if you do not listen to what he says but look at what he does, being a progressive is about being suppressive and regressive, not moving forward but suppressing growth and innovation in the private sector and giving government control in the public sector.

Since you point out the color black is a problem for many people in voting for a black President, i would of vote for Herman Cain, Thomas Sowell, Alan Keyes, Michael Williams, Eric Wallace, there are many more qualified black Americans who would be a better leader than our current one because of the content of their character not the color of their skin and the principles and values they stand up for, their actual leadership experience qualities and experience in making actual executive decisions.

Why the majority of Americans voted for a man who was unknown, inexperienced in executive decisions, Senator from Illinois is beyond me, he did not even have a voting record, he preferred to vote 'present' all the time. He did not even serve in the U.S. Senate for more than a few months because he started his campaign two years earlier than most Presidential campaigns were ever started.

Perhaps many people should not vote in the federal elections unless they understand how it is suppose to work, or understand the issues or even know about the very candidate they are voting for. Perhaps they should stick to issues and candidates closer to home.

Socialist, Communists/Marxists are out of the closet as well as the Jihadists, with the exception of the Jihadists, the rest are running our federal government, state governments and city governments as well as being part of our executive and legislative branches of our federal government, many are in the executive branch appointed by the President and not voted for by the American people.

Those are the facts, the truth as for as your money goes:

It pays for garbage pickup, police and fire protection, public schools, public transportation, roads, lighting on roads and highways, traffic lights for your safety, road sign signs and street signs, probably one of your favorites are the road side signs paid by the 2009 stimulus telling you that this is your stimulus money at work for you. 911 access on your cell phone and land phone. Highway cameras to monitor traffic with electronic signs that advise of what's ahead in the roadway and delays, Wildlife and Fish authorities to keep you safe on the waterways, public boat ramps, public parks, highway patrol to look out for your safety on highways, rest areas off of highways, County extension office that you can call and make a appointment with a forester that will come and advise you on fauna, trees, soil on your property. JEA, will send out a agent who will advise you one how to save on your utility bills, inspectors that will come out and inspect any add ons, upgrades or replacement to your home, HVAC, septic tank, electric panel, pool, etc., to make sure it all meets code, requirements for your safety, Post offices, 6 day a week mail delivery, festivals, annual agriculture fair, book fairs, transportation for the elderly, Sustainable Development Agenda 21, public libraries, a symphony, facilities to see performances in several settings, a NFL football team and stadium, public broadcasting, Art Museums, a zoo, a baseball park, many park facilities for your children to play soccer, football, baseball, cleaning and upkeep of the roadways, life guards at the beaches, loads of free brochures and pamphlets at the school board and city hall, web sites for all the above, there are more things, if you just look around, especially in the hidden taxes that we all pay.

Did you know that Gas is UP 67% since Obama President? The previous administration and i disagreed with them on a lot of things but at least there was real leadership in that group that lifted bans on drilling and the price world wide plummeted, that was real experienced leadership in action. We definitely do not have that with this what ever color he is or whatever religion he practices current President. Leadership and experience is sorely lacking.

To William, it is so obvious.

The latest from Stephenson is really right out of the DNC talking points. Full of propaganda about how the Tea Party is supposed to think and behave from left's point of view. Give the man a column in the Daily Kos.

Silence is golden was a phrase Walter Burien uses about government funds and CAFR's. I noticed John didn't touch the subject but was quick to land on most other things quickly but was totally silent on this subjuect. Walter Burien (Cafr1)isn't all that credible to me. I'm a little skeptical when a person believes 9-11 was an inside job. But shedding light on a given subject isn't about the source although some sources are a little twisted and funny looking.   Wow.. defend you.. you guys leave me in the dust. My silence at times comes from reading better than I two finger type. The progressives are about language and the distortion there of. If I was to punch someone, the person I punched probably wouldn't have learned as much as maybe six people watching... I'm like a steak at a dogfight... Arguing semantics is not my strong point.  Our founding fathers had ideological differences and the language to back it up. I basically start with the communist manifesto and strictly oppose anything that resembles anything contained there in. Starting with a highly progressive income tax, although once in a while, I do like to point out how silly it is to allow government as a system to hide such staggering amounts of wealth from public scrutiny and that it never enters into the same old arguments. Gerald Klatt, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Ret) Former: Auditor/Commander, Air Force Audit Agency Federal Accountant website: cafrman.com, is a much better site to educate yourself on the absurdity of government accounting procedures. You can fiddle with tax rates, social security and other socialist entitlements until your blue in the face but the game will remain the same. I favor the FairTax because it leans toward Jefferson instead of Marx and is a more viable way to pay for all the socialist crap everyone seems to demand. That can't be a bad thing. As far as John Stephenson I will defend to my death his right to speak and encourage yours. I have to take society for what it is although I would just as soon leave it, which is not an option I have. This is my country and although it is being destroyed by those not smart enough to have founded it, I try to remain a voice and encourage each and every one of you to become as active as you possibly can in the FCTP. Don't be afraid to speak out and to point out injustice you may be aware of. Pointing out flaws, especially mine should be a number one priority. We have live our entire lives under progressive- socialist influence, is it so hard to believe that some of us are not a little jaded by it.

Mr. Harvel, it definitely is about what he posts and the caustic, disrespectful, antagonistic manner in which he does so.  Too bad he doesn't respect that silence is golden with regard to his criticizing opinions, accusations, and slings and arrows against: the FCTP; a number of FCTP members who don't want to be subjected to his liberal rants, false claims and insulting attacks; and the entire Tea Party movement.  Anyone who wants to partake of that coarse form of dialogue can find it all over the blogosphere, but he seems to be fixated on the FCTP, which is targeted by him because he wants to interfere with and hamper our free speech, written expression and communication on our website.

BTW, I don't believe you could possibly know what would be the content of anything he's left unsaid, unwritten, and unposted.  If the two of you want to verbally joust with each other, why don't you exchange e-mail addresses or phone numbers and leave the rest of us out of it?  What he engages in is not "debate," as you characterized it in an earlier post.  It's baiting and bullying. We get it that he has a totally different world view than those of us in the Tea Party movement.  We also get it that he continues to harass and bully members in his posts on this website, apparently because his baiting and bullying provide him with a payoff that gratifies him so much that he has now escalated it, probably to get the high resulting from getting away with it.

Harassment and bullying are no small matter and can escalate to stalking.  All three are against the law in Florida.  When done online, bullying and stalking rise to a more serious level of felony and are considered computer crime. There are both Florida and federal statutes prohibiting computer crime.

In your posts, you provide legitimate information and explanations that serve a useful purpose.  It would be very helpful if you would refrain from defending bad behavior of a person whose opinions are thrown like darts in a very offensive way.  I haven't heard you defending any of us who have been attacked by him... and there are more than a few of us. Or defending the FCTP from his criticisms and false accusations either.  Is that an example of golden silence?

John, I already have a copy that i downloaded last year. I really admire Paul Ryan and Alan Simpson who are on the committee, can not stand Max Baucus who is out in the *TWiLiGHT*ZONe*

Alan Simpson is on FOX news regularly talking about the changes that must be done or our country is lost. Go over to youtube or FOXnews, he is a very knowable on economics, budgets and how the federal government SHOULD work.

Try: http://www.fiscalcommission.gov/

The link for the report is:

http://www.fiscalcommission.gov/sites/fiscalcommission.gov/files/do...

Go over and check out the GOP solutions at:   http://www.gop.gov/

There you can see even the ideas they have for the Health Care Reform that have been on that site for almost two years even though our wonderful President and the Progressive Liberals denied that they did not offer any new ideas. Funny how the truth always finds the light of day.

Did anyone manage to open the fiscal commission link Stephenson posted? It kept telling me the file was damaged and can't be repaired... Bummer. Oh well, I would like to point out that it's not so much about what he says... But what he doesn't say. Silence is golden on certain issues.

Anyone hear anything on how Billie is feeling???

I wish we could clone him and a few others. Great response. Senator Bill Nelson has stated in the Florida Times Union yesterday, that if we loose this then we must pay back 60 million plus or so dollars. If that is true, i think we should hold him responsible for that along with any other elected representative who pushed for this and backed it. We need to somehow be able to hold these elected representatives accountable for their actions.

Also in the same paper was an interesting article about the people mover in Jacksonville and what a failure and drain on our city's budget, the state's budget and the federal budget.

When will these people learn?

Just saw Congressmen Alan West and Connie Mack, i was really proud listening to them speak.

I get a daily floor schedule from Congress: http://www.majorityleader.gov/welcometeam.htm

Here you can contact House Leader Boehner and read all the that the GOP is taking on: http://www.gop.gov/

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
