The Mayor's Race: A City Divided
There is not a big win for either camp this morning. The city is divided and the winner will come down to a few hundred votes.
There will be accusations and yelling in a room filled with lawyers. The Supervisor of Elections office will once again be thrown into the mix of political warfare as they look at every ballot cast.
The 30+% of people who voted will wait for the final count.
And behind the scenes, MoveOn.org and Organizing for America will be preparing their paid people to protest should it not go their way.
The Tiny Union will write stories about the land slide victory if their man wins. They will write about the stolen election if ours does.
We’ve seen this before and nothing ever changes. Nothing will ever change until the rest of Duval County wakes up and realizes because they didn’t vote, they will now be led by a handful of people – like them or not.
And let this be known…
If Mike Hogan wins, we will be thankful.
If Alvin Brown wins, we will not “throw ourselves behind him” because Mr. Brown chose to ignore the tea party members and chose to ignore the many questions posed to him about his background. We will not go away and we will continue to ask the questions until they are answered. The questions are too important to be ignored.
And…we will not rest until North Florida has a newspaper that investigates the stories and reports the facts. The owners of the Tiny Union should be run out of town for not writing about the MoveOn.org and Organizing for America operatives AND for not doing a story on the questions posed to Mr. Brown. They ignored these stories and for some reason, chose to denigrate Mike Hogan.
This is happening all over America and will continue to happen until new leadership takes hold in Washington. The political machine from DC ran this race and no one can say it wasn't so. We know it and they know we know it. We have the proof even if the Tiny Union will not print it.
As the recount begins today, keep praying that David will beat Goliath.

I agree. This is an opportunity to prove to everyone that the Tea Party is a supporter of democracy - no matter who wins. It is cannot be a "handful of people" who will run this city - it needs to be all of us. We cannot go ahead or get ahead being just sore losers. We certainly do need to learn lessons and do a better job of helping to get the vote out - and perhaps we can work on figuring out a better way to do that. Clearly just walking neighborhoods and making robocalls doesn't get the job done. If you are disappointed, then say a prayer for strength and let's move ahead and do our best - and do better next time.

Patricia, well said. The positive thing is that we got rid of Webb and he controlled the purse strings of our city, because of his position. We have more fiscal conservatives on the city council, a good thing. I disagree with you on republicans running Florida government, just because you are a registered republican candidate does not mean you are a republican, especially in our city, we have not had a true conservative Republican Mayor for decades now, that is why it is so important not to vote for party but for content of character, principles, values and the TRUTH.

Patricia, I hope the bitterness and disappointment you feel can be channeled to something good. Congratulate the winners and let's get busy. We are a special group and cannot start acting like a bunch of sore losers. Chin up and dignified. Shake hands with those who voted for Brown, they get to have say too. Bitterness is unbecoming, we are better than that.

I must say, families at polling stations is always heartening, as are long lines. People willing to stand in line to vote, that says alot. Don't let disappointment seep into your thinking and thoughts. This not about winning and losing but holding all of these guys accountable. Nothing changes, we should challenge any elected official, stay involved. If the difference is you don't get to stay at home and hope it comes out alright then this is a good thing. All governments, at all levels work better with public involvvement. And no matter who you voted for, accountability to the people comes first. And just because you voted for someone doesn't mean that they are above reproach.
Republicans have run all three branches of Florida government for over 13 years, our problems haven't been solved, we have plenty of them. Just means we have to keep working. Republicans do control the Board.

Brown won. They just announced that Mike couldn't catch him now as he is about 1500 ahead. It is over. We now have a totally inexperienced mayor who hates the governor....................elected by a group of people that haven't voted since the Obama election!

Roma, when they raised the debt ceiling back in 2010, to 1.9 trillion dollar higher, within a month to two months they spent over 500 billion dollars. Another reason not to raise it. That is just more than a fourth of the ceiling in less than TWO MONTHS. That is unconscionable. Have we accounted for all the money spent from 2007 til now? By the end of Sept 2011 over $7,000,000,000,000.00 plus TRILLION dollars will have been added to our U.S. Debt since the end of 2006 ... that is LESS than 5 years will have ALMOST doubled our U.S. Debt and tripled the size of our Federal government. That is despicable what is being done to our country. WHY?

At least we got rid of Webb and the new mayor will be dealing with a much more conservative City Council. We may be in a state of stalemate for a while, which is better than a Progressive move backward to tyranny. Don't forget that sometimes God answers your prayers with "NO"

Yes. Don't know if I stated clearly enough but the Republicans could not possibly run anyone that would cause me to vote for Obama. That will never happen. But they could drive me to "waste my vote" if they don't put up someone I can live with.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??
If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets. It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.
